ADHD: Move to Soothe

  • Stretch and Fold 71 Papaverhof Amsterdam, NH, 1032 KJ Netherlands (map)

Designed for those with a recent ADHD diagnosis, suspected diagnosis, or anyone looking to understand ADHD better, this workshop integrates breath and movement with interactive lectures. The aim is to soothe the common challenges associated with ADHD, such as Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD), fluctuating focus, overwhelm, decision paralysis, and the sticky residue of shame. Building on the foundational workshop, the “Follow-Up" session delves deeper into managing ADHD with a focus on nutrition, gut health, and sleep hygiene. Designed for continued support and learning, this workshop aims to further address the bedfellows of ADHD, such as RSD, fluctuating focus, overwhelm, decision paralysis, and the lingering effects of shame.

October 5th: Foundation (14:00-16:30)

Join us for a transformative 2.5-hour workshop designed to explore holistic approaches for managing ADHD symptoms.

This session will provide a comprehensive but digestable introduction to understanding ADHD from a neuroscientific standpoint, looking at among other things, the Default Mode Network and Task Positive Network in the brain and the Stress-System in the body, including ways to manage it. We will delve into the power of nutrition, examining ADHD-friendly foods and supplements to enhance cognitive function. Participants will also learn effective breathwork practices, such as mindful breathing and diaphragmatic techniques, to improve focus and reduce the potential for anxiety. We’ll touch on ways to manage a desk-based workday such as utilising binaural beats and isochronic tones for enhancing concentration. Through lectures we will learn exactly why Movement can be one of the best tools for holistically managing ADHD. Including tips on how to commit to a routine for movement, however flexible it needs to be. Through interactive activities and practical strategies, you will gain valuable insights and tools to help you or your loved one navigate ADHD in a near-typical world. This session follows a frame-work and you will receive the content as a PDF so you can reference in future. As part of the workshop we will have moments to break out into discussion, helping to foster a sense of seeing and being seen by the compassionate gaze of other people navigating the same things.

Ideal for both individuals or loved ones seeking to create a supportive environment.

October 6th: Follow-Up (14:00-16:30)

Building on the foundation of our initial workshop, this 2.5-hour session delves deeper into the holistic management of ADHD with a special focus on  gut health and sleep hygiene. Through lectures we will learn about the latest research on the gut-brain connection and discover specific dietary strategies to optimise mental clarity and emotional balance. We'll also discuss the importance of sleep hygiene and provide practical tips to improve sleep quality, crucial for managing ADHD symptoms.

This session includes lectures on "Approaching Your Diagnosis with Autonomy," empowering you to take control of your ADHD journey with informed and proactive choices. Learn about emerging techniques such as biofeedback and neurofeedback, which may soon be more widely available to help regulate attention and emotional responses. Additionally, we'll emphasise the importance of finding social support and connection, highlighting how strong relationships and community engagement can bolster your well-being.

Moreover, we'll explore the need to express creativity and pursue hobbies purely for personal fulfilment, without the pressure to monetise them. Participants will also learn new techniques, such as acupressure points for grounding and refocusing. This workshop is designed for those who attended the Foundation session and are looking to expand their toolkit with more targeted and in-depth practices. Join us to continue your journey towards a holistic approach to ADHD management and well-being.

Ideal for both individuals or loved ones seeking to create a supportive environment.

About Nathalie:

Nathalie is the co-founder of London Movement Studio Waking Dreams. True to her peak ADHD fashion, she has pursued many different careers over the last two decades, often ending or pivoting abruptly due to burnout, loss of motivation, or near bankruptcy. Three years ago, alongside teaching and running the studio, Nathalie embarked on a Neuroscience Master's degree at King's College London. Although she found the concepts easy to grasp, the volume of reading and the focus required caused her significant distress.

After a "calling it quits" phone call that felt all too familiar, she was convinced by a student support mentor to put herself forward for testing. This resulted in a late diagnosis of ADHD and dyslexia. Nathalie has strong feelings about how inaccessible education and academia can be for neurodiverse people, but she remains grateful to that advisor for encouraging her not to give up. Both the diagnosis and the learning gained throughout her MSc have been pivotal in the work Nathalie hopes to continue, de-stigmatising ADHD and encouraging people to see diagnosis as a strength.

In her movement and breath teaching Nathalie looks to synthesise elements of play, challenge and balance with her own creative language and metaphor. Drawing upon many techniques, she is a lover of Pranayama, with an overall down-regulating approach and bottom-up approach.
